Qiang Fu

Dr. Qiang Fu is a distinguished researcher, doctoral supervisor, and Director of the Center for Nanoscience and Interface Catalysis at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1996 and his Ph.D. in 2000 from the Beijing Institute of Technology. From 2000 to 2006, Dr. Fu conducted postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research and the Fritz Haber Institute in Germany. In 2006, he joined the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, where he has since made significant contributions to the field of catalysis and surface science.

Dr. Fu’s research focuses on the in situ and dynamic characterization of surface and interface processes in gas-solid thermal catalysis and liquid-solid electrochemistry at the microscopic scale. He has pioneered fundamental concepts such as interface-confined catalysis and developed novel techniques for in situ dynamic surface studies. Since 1999, Dr. Fu has published over 240 papers in prestigious international journals, including Nature, Science, Nature Nanotechnology, Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), Nature Communications, and PNAS, with his work cited more than 20,000 times. He has filed over 30 patents, with 10 granted.

Dr. Fu serves as an Associate Editor for Applied Surface Science and Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, and as an editorial board member for Nano Research, Surfaces, Chemistry-Methods, and Chinese Journal of Catalysis. He has led more than 20 major research projects, including the National Major Scientific Equipment Development Project and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Currently, he is the principal investigator of the National Key R&D Program of China, focusing on “Surface and Interface Catalysis of Metal Oxide Nanostructures and Clusters.”

As a core member of his research team, Dr. Fu has been honored with the First Prize of the National Natural Science Award, the National Innovation Excellence Award, and the First Prize of the Liaoning Province Natural Science Award. He has received funding from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and the Excellent Young Scientists Fund. Additionally, he was recognized as a Leading Innovative Talent in Liaoning Province’s “Xingliao Yingcai” Program. In 2024, Dr. Fu was elected as a Fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of catalysis and surface science.

Dr. Fu’s groundbreaking research and leadership have significantly advanced the understanding of catalytic processes at the nanoscale, with far-reaching implications for energy conversion, environmental sustainability, and materials science. His work continues to inspire innovation and collaboration in the global scientific community.
